Many customers are surprised when we say we carry out most measurements remotely. It's not a shortcut or a saving at the expense of quality — it's a proven, considered way of working that's simply practical when working over long distances. In this article we explain what a measurement looks like with us, when it's done remotely and when we come in person.

Remote measuring — how it works

We carry out about 90% of single-window measurements remotely, taking responsibility for the result ourselves. It's simple: during a video call one person holds the phone and shows the tape stretched out in the opening, while the other reads off the dimensions. We guide the measurement step by step — width and height at several points, from top to bottom. A single window is usually a matter of 5–10 minutes.

Why remote measuring is reliable

During a video call we see exactly what the person measuring sees — the reading on the tape on screen. If a small difference appears, say one and a half to two centimetres, it's no problem with a single window: the opening can be adjusted slightly or filled with foam. As a rule we prefer to order a window slightly too small rather than too big, which gives a safe margin for installation.

When we come in person

We measure in person for larger, comprehensive projects: replacing all the windows, doors, sills and roller shutters, and in new builds. There, precision and coordinating many elements are crucial, so sending out a measuring team is fully justified. On a large job it's a natural part of the process.

Why we run the measurement over video

Remote measuring by video call has one more advantage: it gives a documented record of what was agreed. We can go back to it if any doubts arise — it's clear what dimensions were given and what was agreed, for example that we don't carry out internal finishing. It's a safeguard for you as well as for us. It's also worth remembering that as standard we don't do internal finishing — painting and filling after installation remain the customer's responsibility, which we make clear in advance.
